Hey,
My name is Jennifer Salazar, and this is my story:
Imagine fighting a 7 year long court battle just to establish your freedom! Sounds unfair? Now imagine doing it in a new state without a car, without the comfort of your home, the curriculum vitae you have spent 35 years building destroyed and personal belongings stolen by your abuser. Sounds tough?
Now add to that the responsibility of a special needs child, their homeschooling (because school denies to address their issues), going through a cardiac incident, your and your child’s PTSD, and unfair treatment left and right that you have a half a dozen lawsuits you don’t have time to pursue, sounds impossible, right?
Unfortunately, this is not an imaginary scenario, this is the story of my life. This is my life as a mother of 3 abuse survivor, former Yoga instructors’ instructor and certified massage therapist.
And now after 7 long years I need your help. The cost of your morning coffee and protect someone’s future. Immediate help is needed as the attorney, who has been paid a lot already but who has done a lot of work beyond what she has been paid has reached a point as it all comes to a close, where she cannot pay for the deposition out of her own pocket (and those who do the work cannot go unpaid), she cannot pay to make new filings and push through the end.
And I have nothing left to give as all I managed to save each time is consumed on trips to Texas, and not being salaried means missing any income when you miss the work. If I’ve to stay longer or return, I couldn’t.
I owe my friends, my mother, bills and medical expenses, while I’m just finishing school to regain my ability to work and also starting a non-profit* so no one has to go through what I have been through. I will need about a year to get going where it is income not payback.
But urgently, I need to pay the attorney to complete this with the full vigor and use of the full legal arnsenal, as the person from whom I seek protection long ago has declared it a war, not a negotiation, and is supported by family unto the demise of their own health and personal financial security in retirement years.

* Starting a non-profit and keeping up with the compliance is almost a fulltime job. I’ve already gotten “Thrive Purple Heart” registered and a couple of months ago we recieved our 501(c)3 but it still requires state charity solictation and many other nuts and bolts in place before we can actually start helping people. But I can’t do that while struggling to survive. Please Help One of Us Survive Escaping (H.O.U.S.E.). So I can help others.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is this all about?
This is about me and you. It’s about building a world where we dismantle coercive control and lift up survivors. After years of perseverance, my nonprofit, Thrive Purple Heart (TPH), has officially received its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. This is a monumental milestone, but the real work is just beginning.
Starting a nonprofit is a full-time job, and I cannot build this foundation while I am still fighting to survive. I need your help to bridge the gap between my past struggle and our future mission.
Your support through memberships and merch will go directly toward clearing past legal dues for the attorney who has been an important part of my seven-year-long legal battle, allowing her to finish my case with full vigor, putting the court verdict into an ironclad decree. This requires some very specific tasks to be taken. You can learn more about it here.
It also provides the breathing room I need to finish school and handle the “nuts and bolts” of nonprofit compliance so I can transition from surviving to helping others thrive.
In short, this is about allowing me, Jennifer Salazar, to transition from surviving to thriving, so I can dedicate myself entirely to the mission of H.O.U.S.E. and Thrive Purple Heart, viz., creating a better world through systemic change against coercive control and helping survivors thrive.
What is Thrive Purple Heart?
Thrive Purple Heart is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit dedicated to empowering survivors of domestic abuse. The purpose of this organization includes, but is not limited to:
- Connecting survivors escaping domestic abuse with agencies who can help with their specific situation rather than a general list.
- Connecting survivors escaping domestic abuse with private citizens, businesses or institutions wanting to help with individual situations where their help can make a difference.
- Providing techniques, resources, and planning to escape safely and minimize loss of assets, income, certifications, personal belongings, and other means of support.
- Educate survivors, the public, agencies of help, municipalities and legal officials about coercive abuse and about gaps in current support and the added costs that puts on the justice system, welfare system, law enforcement, education system and survivors themselves. Educate them on the added toll on mental and physical health long-term and the increased risk of loss of life or failure to escape abuse inherent in these failures to facilitate survivors and to enforce existing laws or court orders.
- Explore the means to ethically provide consistent rights, enforcement as well as support regardless of location of involved parties and the effectiveness of such consistency in improving outcomes.
